Mechanism
Mechanism in research
In studies, tirzepatide is described as an agonist of both the GIP receptor and the GLP-1 receptor. In the literature, activation of these incretin receptors is associated with glucose-dependent insulin release, inhibition of glucagon and delayed gastric emptying. The fatty-acid chain binds to albumin, which explains the long half-life.
