Buying research peptides in the Netherlands: what to look for

You buy research peptides from a supplier of laboratory materials, not from a pharmacy or chemist. The online offer is large and quality varies. This article covers the points that make the difference: a certificate per lot, the right analyses, a clear label, storage and shipping.

Why not at the pharmacy?

A pharmacy supplies healthcare products, on prescription or over the counter. Research peptides are material for laboratory research and do not belong there. You find them at suppliers of lab materials, who show per lot what is in the vial.

A certificate per lot

The key document is the certificate of analysis (COA). A good certificate belongs to one lot and states the lot number, the analytical methods, the results, the laboratory and a date. A report without a lot number, or the same report for every strength and every order, says little about your vial.

  • Purity measured by HPLC, as a percentage. What 98% or 99% means is explained in HPLC purity.
  • Identity confirmed by mass spectrometry (MS): the measured mass should match the peptide.
  • Preferably the measured content in mg, so you can compare it with the label.
  • A laboratory you can check, with a reference number.

The label and the vial

  • A lot number on the vial that matches the certificate.
  • The name of the material and the net amount in mg.
  • A sealed glass vial with a rubber stopper and an aluminium seal.
  • A statement that the material is for laboratory research only.

Storage and shipping

Freeze-dried peptides tolerate a short period at room temperature, such as during shipping, but should then be kept cool and dry (see Storing peptides). Shipping from the Netherlands means a short transit time and no customs.

BrabantLabs ships from the Netherlands; from our own stock an order arrives within 1–2 working days. Shipping costs and delivery times are on Shipping & returns.

Comparing prices

Compare prices per mg rather than per vial: a larger vial is often cheaper per mg. How to choose a strength is explained in Choosing a strength. A strikingly low price without a certificate per lot is a reason to look more critically.

Frequently asked questions

Can you buy research peptides at a pharmacy?
As a rule, no. Research peptides are laboratory material; you buy them from a supplier of lab materials, with a certificate per lot.
What is a COA?
A certificate of analysis: a laboratory's report on one lot, including the purity (HPLC) and the identity (MS).
How do I know the certificate belongs to my vial?
Compare the lot number on the vial with the lot number on the certificate. They should be the same.
How quickly does an order arrive?
BrabantLabs ships from the Netherlands; from our own stock an order arrives within 1–2 working days.
